Local Gutter Cleaning in Malibu, CA
Gutters full of dry leaves and spilling over in the rain? Our crew scoops them out, flushes the downspouts and fixes the small leaks.
Gutters stuffed with dead leaves, needles and roof grit? That's the most common reason people call us for gutter cleaning in Malibu. We set the ladder, scoop every run out by hand, bag the junk and haul it off. Then we run a hose through each downspout to prove the water actually goes where it should.
Cleaning is most of the job, but not all of it. While we're up there we look at the hangers, end caps, seams and the strip where the gutter meets the fascia board. Small stuff, like resealing a drippy corner or snugging up a loose hanger, we can usually knock out on the same visit.
Here's the honest part. If your gutters are rusted through or hanging off soft, rotten fascia, a cleaning won't save them. We'll tell you that before we start instead of charging you to clean something that needs to come down.
When Gutter Cleaning in Malibu Is the Right Next Step
Water sheeting over the front edge
When rain pours over the lip instead of running down the spout, something's plugged. Most of the time it's the outlet at the top of the downspout.
Weeds sprouting up top
Seeds land in wet muck and take root. Green you can see from the driveway means it's been a while.
Drips at corners and seams
Old sealant dries out, cracks and lets go. Look for a steady drip or a rust streak on the fascia right under a joint.
Runs sagging or pulling loose
A trough full of wet debris gets heavy fast. That weight bends hangers and pulls spikes out of the fascia.
Puddles along the foundation
A backed-up downspout dumps water right next to your walls. Soil that stays soaked there is where bigger trouble starts.
Dry debris going into fire season
Dead leaves sitting along the roof edge are fuel in the worst possible spot. Clearing them out is cheap insurance against embers.
Gutter Cleaning for Homes and Rentals
Homes
Most gutter calls come from single-family houses, from flat-lot ranch homes to two-story places on a hillside. Cleaning, flushing and small repairs are the core of it. And if there's a cracked roof tile or a loose vent cap up there, we'll mention it.
Rentals & small business
We also clean gutters on duplexes, small rentals and little office buildings. Property managers can text us the address and a couple of photos, and we'll walk it and price it before we start. Big flat commercial roofs with parapet drains aren't our kind of job.

Our Approach to Gutter Cleaning & Repair
Check it from the ground
We walk the house first and look for sags, loose spikes and bad seams. Then we set the ladder with a stand-off so it rests on the roof edge, not the gutter lip.
Scoop and bag it
Debris comes out by hand and with a plastic gutter scoop, straight into bags. Nothing gets blown onto your patio or over the fence into the neighbor's yard.
Flush every downspout
A hose goes into each outlet. A spout packed solid gets its elbow pulled or a snake run down it until the water flows free.
Fix small stuff, report
Leaky joints get fresh gutter sealant and loose hangers get new screws. You get photos and a plain list of anything bigger we found.
When It's More Than Leaves: Rust, Rot and Bad Pitch
The hard version shows up after we pull the debris and see what it was hiding. Steel gutters rust from the inside where wet leaves sat for years. Seams that look fine from the lawn have pinholes. And the fascia board behind it all may be soft enough to push a screwdriver into.
Pitch is the other headache. Gutters need a slight fall toward the downspout, and after enough bent hangers a run can sag into a belly that holds standing water. We can rehang a short section with new hidden hangers and get the slope back. Rehanging the whole house, or swapping long stretches of rotten fascia, is a bigger animal.
When it's bigger, we say so. Short sections we fix ourselves. A full replacement or a fascia rebuild that goes past the state limit for unlicensed work gets handed to a licensed partner, and you still call us with questions.
Leaves and grit scooped out, downspouts flushed, drippy seams resealed and sagging runs rehung. Send a photo and the address, and you'll get a straight answer.
(333) 333‑3333Why Gutters Matter More on a Malibu House
The whole city sits in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, according to the City of Malibu. That changes how we look at a gutter. A trough full of dry leaves is a ready-made ember bed right at the roofline. CAL FIRE's home hardening guide says to keep gutters free of plant debris, add a noncombustible metal drip edge and use noncombustible gutter covers.
So we push for a cleaning before the dry, windy stretch of fall, not after the first storm. Rain is the other half. The City's building design factors assume 2.0 inches of rainfall per hour, and a half-clogged downspout can't keep up with a cloudburst like that.
Can You Clean Your Own Gutters?
On a one-story house with flat ground and a solid ladder, yes. Wear gloves, use a plastic scoop (metal ones scratch the finish), and keep your belt buckle between the rails. Finish with a hose and watch where the water comes out at the bottom.
But a two-story house on a slope is a whole different job. Hillside lots mean soft, uneven footing, and a ladder that kicks out on a grade is how people end up in the ER. If you're second-guessing it, that's your answer.
Gutter Work We Handle and When We Bring In a Partner
We clean, flush, reseal joints, rehang short runs and swap a crushed elbow or a missing end cap. California only lets someone without a contractor's license take a job when the total price, labor and materials together, is under $1,000, and never on work that needs a building permit. A whole new one-piece gutter system, or fascia repairs that go past that line, get referred to a trusted licensed partner. We set up the referral and stay your first call.
What to Expect
- How long does it take?
- A one-story house with normal buildup is usually a few hours. Two stories, steep lots or downspouts packed solid take longer. We'll give you a realistic window once we've seen the roofline.
- Will there be a mess?
- Some. Debris goes into bags as we work, and a tarp goes down where the muck tends to drop. Gutter sludge drips, so we rinse off walkways and patio furniture under the work area before we pack up.
- What does it cost?
- Public cost guides put gutter cleaning at $70 to $200 for a one-story home, $100 to $275 for two stories and $130 to $400 for three, per HomeGuide. Height, roof pitch, how packed things are and any repairs move the number. Our quote comes after we look, not before.
- Do I need a permit?
- Not for cleaning or small gutter repairs. Roof-edge or fascia work that does need a permit goes to a licensed partner who pulls it.
- Do I need to be home?
- Usually not. With yard access and the side gates open, we can work while you're out. We'll text you photos and a quick rundown when we finish.
Gutter Cleaning & Repair FAQ
When should I book gutter cleaning in Malibu?
Late summer into early fall is the sweet spot, before the dry winds and before the first real rain. Clean gutters mean less dry fuel at the roof edge and proper drainage when storms finally show up. Houses under big trees may need a second pass in late winter or spring, after the heaviest leaf drop.
Are gutter guards worth it?
They help, but they don't mean you never clean again. Fine grit and pine needles still slip through or pile up on top. Pick metal if you go with guards, since CAL FIRE recommends noncombustible gutter covers. Plastic screens warp in the sun. Have the gutters cleaned first, though, so you're not sealing old muck in underneath.
Can you fix a leaking gutter seam?
Yes, most of the time. The old sealant gets scraped out, the metal gets wire-brushed and dried, and fresh gutter sealant goes on the inside of the joint. A seam that's rusted all the way through needs a patch or a new section instead. We'll show you which kind you have before we touch it.
Will you walk on my roof?
Only when it's safe and the roofing can take it. Most of our cleaning happens from a ladder with a stand-off so we don't crush the gutter lip. Clay and concrete tile crack under foot, so we stay off those. On a steep or fragile roof we work slower from the ladder instead.
Do you clear downspouts that go underground?
We'll flush them and try a snake from the top. Plenty of downspouts drop into a buried pipe that runs out toward the yard or the curb. If water backs up out of that line and the snake won't clear it, the clog may be roots or a crushed pipe. That's a drain job, and we'll tell you what we found.
