Local Kitchen Remodeling in Malibu, CA
Cabinet doors drooping, faucet dripping, backsplash looking rough? Those we fix. Big remodels go to a licensed partner.
Thinking about kitchen remodeling in Malibu because the room just feels worn out? Before you price out new cabinets, it's worth knowing how much of that tired feeling is a handful of small repairs.
Doors that won't close flush. A faucet that drips. A disposal that hums and does nothing. Caulk at the sink that's gone gray. We fix those, one after another, and the kitchen usually works a lot better by the end of the visit.
When you're past fixing and want new layout, new cabinets and new counters, that's a remodel. We'll say so up front and connect you with a trusted licensed partner who builds kitchens.
Kitchen Problems: Quick Repairs vs Full Remodels
Cabinet doors sag or won't close
Small fix. The hinges get adjusted or replaced, stripped screws swapped and the doors realigned so the gaps run even.
Drawers stick or fall off track
Easy one. Worn drawer slides get pulled and replaced with new full-extension slides sized to the box.
Dead or leaking disposal
Usually a straight swap. Old unit out, new one hung on the sink flange, dishwasher knockout punched if needed.
Drippy faucet or loose sprayer
A faucet swap onto existing supply lines and shutoffs? Short job.
Stained grout and gray sink caulk
Ours too. Cracked backsplash grout gets redone, and the sink and counter seams get fresh caulk.
Want an island or new layout
Full remodel. Moving walls, plumbing, gas or circuits takes a licensed partner and usually permits.
Kitchen Repairs for Homes and Rentals
Homes
At home, we work through the list you've been putting off. Hinges, slides, the disposal, the faucet, the toe kick that keeps popping off. Small stuff, but it adds up to a kitchen that works again.
Rentals & small business
For rentals and small office break rooms, we handle the fixes that come up between tenants or after a complaint. Disposal swaps, cabinet repairs, recaulking and new pulls are the usual list. Full kitchen rebuilds in a rental go to a licensed partner.

Our Approach to Kitchen Remodeling
Walk the kitchen
We open every cabinet, run the water and the disposal, and look under the sink for old drips.
Split the list
You get a plain list of what's a quick repair and what would need a licensed partner and a permit.
Knock out the fixes
We do the hinges, slides, faucet, disposal or caulk work and test everything before we pack up.
Connect the remodel
If you want a full remodel, we put you in touch with a trusted licensed partner and you keep calling us.
Water Damage Under the Sink and Other Hidden Problems
The worst kitchen problems live in the sink base. A slow drip at the P-trap or the dishwasher hookup can swell the cabinet floor until it crumbles. Sometimes it goes further, into the subfloor or the wall behind.
If the cabinet floor is soft but the box is sound, we can often cut in a new bottom panel and fix the leak that caused it. Rot that runs into the framing, or a cabinet that's falling apart, is beyond a repair visit and becomes part of a bigger job.
Old backsplash tile can hide trouble too. When a section is loose, the drywall behind it is often soaked, and new grout won't hold.
Sagging cabinet doors, leaky faucets and worn caulk fixed by us; full kitchen remodels go to a partner. Send a photo and the address, and you'll get a straight answer.
(333) 333‑3333What's Different About Kitchen Remodeling in Malibu
Who issues a remodel permit depends on where you live. Malibu has its own City building department, but Pacific Palisades permits come from LA's Department of Building and Safety, and Topanga goes through LA County Public Works. Westlake Village contracts its building work out to the County too, per the City's FAQ. Your licensed partner sorts that out.
Noise rules matter for any project. Malibu allows construction 7 AM to 7 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 5 PM on Saturdays, with none on Sundays or City holidays, per the City's Building Safety FAQ.
Can You Fix It Yourself?
Cabinet hinge adjustments, yes. Most European-style hinges have two or three screws that move the door up, down and sideways, and a screwdriver is all it takes. Clearing a jammed disposal with the hex key on the bottom is another one you can do.
Faucet and disposal swaps are doable but fussy. Working on your back under a sink with a flashlight in your teeth isn't fun, and a cross-threaded supply line can leak into the cabinet for weeks before you notice. That's usually when people call.
Kitchen Fixes We Do and Remodels We Refer to Licensed Partners
California draws a hard line here. B&P Code §7048 lets work happen without a contractor's license only when the whole contract price, parts and labor included, stays below $1,000, and only when no building permit is needed. A disposal swap or a cabinet hinge job fits easily. A new kitchen never will.
That's why full kitchen remodels go to our trusted licensed partners. New cabinets, counters, moved plumbing, new circuits and the permits that come with them are their work. We also won't take a slice of their remodel, like installing the faucet once their crew leaves. The law treats work that's part of a bigger project as part of that project.
You still call us first. Zacharias will look at the kitchen, fix what's ours, and if a remodel makes sense, introduce you to a partner. And later, if something needs sorting out, we're still the number you call.
What to Expect
- How long does it take?
- Hinge work or a disposal swap is a short job, and we test it before we leave. Full remodel schedules come from the licensed partner.
- Will there be a mess?
- Not much. The sink base gets emptied into a box, a towel goes down, and everything gets wiped after. Grout work kicks up some dust, so we cover the counters.
- What does it cost?
- Our repairs get priced after we look. For a sense of scale, HomeGuide puts an average full kitchen remodel at $15,000 to $50,000, or $150 to $250 per square foot. HomeAdvisor lists disposal installation at $200 to $625. Cabinet quality, counters and layout changes move remodel prices the most.
- Do I need a permit?
- Not for hinge, faucet or caulk repairs. New circuits, moved plumbing or gas lines and wall changes typically need one, and those jobs go to a licensed partner who pulls the permit.
- Do I need to be home?
- For the first walk-through, yes, so you can point out every annoyance. For a known repair list, a key or lockbox works fine.
Kitchen Remodeling FAQ
Do you handle kitchen remodeling in Malibu?
We handle the kitchen repairs and small upgrades ourselves, and refer full remodels to trusted licensed partners. California only allows unlicensed work under $1,000 with no permit, and a remodel blows past both. So we fix cabinets, faucets, disposals and caulk, then connect you with a partner if you want the full job.
Can you fix my cabinets instead of replacing them?
Often, yes. Sagging doors usually need hinge adjustment or new hinges, and sticky drawers usually need new slides. Paint and new pulls go a long way too. If the boxes are water-damaged or falling apart, replacement makes more sense and that's partner work.
Will you install a new dishwasher or disposal?
Disposals, yes, on existing plumbing and wiring, and we connect the dishwasher drain to the new unit. A new circuit, a new outlet under the sink or moved drain lines turns it into permit work for a licensed partner. Send a photo under the sink and we'll tell you which it is.
Can you do the small parts of my remodel to save money?
No. California's minor work rule doesn't apply to work that's part of a larger project, so we can't pick off pieces of a remodel. The licensed partner runs the remodel start to finish. We're happy to fix unrelated things in other rooms.
How do I get started?
Call or text Zacharias with photos of the kitchen and a short list of what bugs you. He'll come look, tell you which items are quick repairs, and give you a free estimate. If a full remodel is the better answer, he'll say so.
